WEBINARS / UPDATE YOUR SOFT DIET RECOMMENDATIONS
A soft diet is often required to protect surgical sites or prevent prosthetic complications. Often heavily restrictive diets lead to non-compliance, frustration and increased risk of post-operative complications. Without careful attention to patient preferences, and knowledge of the nutrition and texture interplay in soft diets, our recommendations can lack the guidance to provide a more targeted approach to improve wound healing and patient wellbeing.
A new food category in medical nutrition will be discussed as it offers a novel solution to the crunchy cravings our patients often experience. A more guided approach to food selection during the post-operative period will be proposed that attempts to optimize wound healing, reduce unwanted weight loss and improve patient confidence in the process.
